Recognition

We know you will want to thank the volunteers who participated in Day of Caring.  Here are some ideas from Day of Caring workplace coordinators on how they thanked their volunteers:

  • Convene volunteers soon after Day of Caring. In addition to thanking them, encourage volunteers to reflect on what they accomplished.
  • Send a personal thank-you note to the volunteers upon returning to work.
  • Send a thank-you note or email to the workplace’s CEO to thank him/her for encouraging employees to volunteer and for allowing you to participate in Day of Caring.
  • Highlight your volunteer team on your website and in your workplace newsletter.
  • Send letters to the editor of your local newspaper to highlight your employees’ efforts.
  • Share pictures of the volunteers on a public bulletin board in your lunchroom, breakroom or waiting area. Put them on your workplace’s intranet site, too.
  • Remember to have your employees complete their Volunteer Raffle Entry Card when they receive their Day of Caring t-shirt. Everyone who completes their entry card will be entered into a drawing at the United Way Community Campaign Victory Celebration. Entry cards must be turned in by the end of September to be entered into the drawing.
  • A Day of Caring evaluation survey will be available in September, and we will use your ideas, comments and suggestions in future years. If you have any other recognition ideas or feedback, please email Libby Richardson.

If you have any further questions, please email Day of Caring project manager Libby Richardson or call (860) 493-1109.
